The Russian national tennis team lost to the Canadians in the semifinals of the ATP Cup

Russian tennis player Roman Safiullin lost to Canadian Denis Shapovalov in the first meeting of the semifinal match for the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) Cup. TASS reports. At the end of the game, the Russian team lost to the Canadian team.

The meeting ended with a score of 6: 4, 5: 7, 6: 4 in favor of Shapovalov (number 14 in the ATP rating). The match lasted 2 hours 41 minutes. The Canadian team won 1-0.

Daniil Medvedev (2) and Felix Auger-Alyassim (11) will be next on the court. All of them will later meet in doubles, where Medvedev and Safiullin from the Russian national team and Shapovalov and Auger-Alyassim from Canada are announced.

The Russian team also includes Evgeny Karlovsky, the team captain is Medvedev’s coach Gilles Servara.

The competition takes place in Sydney, Australia, with a prize pool of $ 10 million. This is the third ATP Cup, the Russian team is the current winner of the tournament. The competition will end on January 9th.

On January 6, the Russian national tennis team reached the semifinals of the ATP Cup. Medvedev and Safiullin defeated rivals from Italy in the match of the third round of the ATP group stage. The decisive meeting was won by Daniil Medvedev and Roman Safiullin, who defeated Matteo Berrettini and Yannick Sinner in a doubles duel (5: 7, 6: 4, 10: 5).

In December, for the first time in 15 years, the Russian team won the main team competition in world tennis – the Davis Cup.
