Sebastián Guayasamín passes the ‘scare’ and rises in the general classification of the Dakar ‘rally’ | Other Sports | sports

The rally Dakar returned to have the four Ecuadorian pilots this Friday with the reappearance of the motorcyclist Juan José Puga, which started the sixth stage after the accident on Tuesday. Juan Carlos Puga and Álex Cueva completed the day on motorcycles, while Sebastian Guayasamin entered the top 10 of lightweight prototypes.

Guayasamín was eighth this Friday, 24 minutes 3 seconds behind the American Seth Quintero (Red Bull Off-Road Junior Team), on the stage of 620 kilometers disputed in Riyadh.

The South American duo made up of Guayasamín and the Argentine Ricardo Torlaschi, as their navigator, he struggled again, this time with refueling, “a horrible scare”, as detailed by the capital.

“It seems that some fuel fell on the turbo, which comes very hot, and the whole back of the car caught fire; Luckily, Ricardo and the supply people acted in seconds and managed to control the fire, ”explained Guayasamín.

The mishap left burned wires. “We made a bridge to start the vehicle, then we had to go hard in the second part of the stage. We managed to get into a top 10 that motivates us for the second part of the race ”, he indicated.

Completed the sixth stage, Guayasamín rose to position 13 of the general classification, led by Chilean Francisco López (EKS-South Racing) with a cumulative time of 24 hours 19 minutes 17 seconds.

On motorcycles, Juan José Puga (Puga Team) got the best position among the three Ecuadorians in competition. The tricolor started again after Tuesday’s accident in which he suffered a dislocated left shoulder.

Puga closed in position 120 this Friday, followed by Alex Cueva at 121 (Xraids Experience) while in the locker 125 Juan Carlos Puga arrived (Puga Team).

“Another day of competition, we are going to arrive,” he commented. Cueva, who is ranked 112th in the general classification in this mode.

The Puga Team has its riders in positions 125 for Juan Carlos, and 137 for Juan José, that accumulates a penalty of 79 hours 48 minutes after not competing in the two previous stages.

It is Saturday is the day of rest for the Dakar caravan, which will settle in Riyadh. “Time to evaluate the strategy and use the time offered for recovery in a balanced way,” said the organization.

The competition resumes on sunday, with stage 7 between Riyadh and Al Dawadimi, which includes a tour of 701 kilometers. (D)
