Esports accused of depriving Russia of future Olympic champions

State Duma deputy and Olympic speed skating champion Svetlana Zhurova reacted to the successes of Russian cybersportsmen. It is reported by Sport24.

On October 17, the domestic Dota 2 Team became the best at the international tournament The International 10. The Russians won $ 18 million in prize money. Zhurova appreciated the efforts of cybersportsmen, but she expressed fears that this discipline could become widespread and attract young guys to sports.

Zhurova accused esports of having a detrimental effect on the younger generation. She is convinced that its massiveness will deprive Russia of future Olympic champions. “We will lose future great athletes to esports who can win Olympic gold. It’s a pity, but that’s their right, ”she said.

Zhurova is the winner of the gold medal of the Games in Turin. She also has two victories at the world speed skating championships.
