Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison explained that Serbian tennis player Novak Djokovic will be deported from the country because he did not provide the authorities with the necessary proof of medical exemption from the coronavirus vaccination. He stated this during his speech, reports TASS.
“The evidence that he received a medical exemption was found to be insufficient,” Morrison said. According to him, the athlete provided information to the airline, which allowed him to board and fly, but this does not guarantee entry into Australia.
At the same time, Morrison recalled that tourists coming to Australia must confirm that they can enter the country in accordance with the laws. According to the Prime Minister, Djokovic “did not have a valid medical exemption from vaccinations” at the time of the border crossing, which is a prerequisite for entering Australia.
“We welcome guests in Australia, but if you have not been double-vaccinated and are not a permanent resident or citizen of our country, then you cannot come,” he concluded.
Morrison said earlier that the visa had been canceled. The prime minister noted that strict border policy was critical for Australia, and recalled that the death rate from coronavirus there is one of the lowest in the world.
The Australian authorities canceled Novak Djokovic’s visa because the athlete did not provide the proper evidence required to enter the country. The tennis player was going to take part in the Australian Open, which will be held from January 17 to 30.
