Good pro for maintenance of Dorsal Net is defined this month

The Ministry of Transport and Communications (MTC) in the coming days will deliver the good pro for the maintenance of the National Fiber Optic Backbone Network (RDNFO). The contract will be provisional until the new tender is defined, which will serve a more profitable model or one that generates fewer losses to the country and makes better use of the infrastructure already in place, Caretas magazine reported.

The Peruvian Telecommunications Program (Pronatel) reported that it is evaluating three proposals from bidding companies; However, the bidding is carried out privately and not through a public tender, which is why the public cannot access its bases to verify the impartiality of the contracting.

According to report No. 008-2021-MTC, RDNFO’s revenues in 2020 only amounted to US $ 4.4 million, which covered 7.7% of the budgeted cost for that period. However, the same year, the MTC made the payment of US $ 57.3 million to the company Azteca Comunicaciones Perú SAC for the concepts of maintenance and return of the investment in the project.

The losses forced the State to terminate, in July of last year, the contract with the company of Mexican origin. Thus, the ownership it had over the RDNFO since 2014 was removed.

Meanwhile, the MTC, between 2005 and 2020, has paid a total of US $ 265 million for the investment and maintenance of Red Dorsal; that is, US $ 166.5 million more than the estimated US $ 98.5 million.
