The hosts dominated the first stage and took advantage of the Spurs’ defensive failures to score the goals of the game, with Kai Havertz and Davies (owning).
After just four minutes, Alonso intercepted Tanganga’s pass and played for Havertz. The German invaded the area from the left and hit the goalkeeper’s exit, the ball still deflected in the defense and went to the back of the goal.
In the 33rd minute, after Ziyech’s cross, Chelsea reached the second goal. Tanganga tried to cut, but ended up throwing the ball into Davies’ body, who deflected it into the back of the net.
In the second stage, Chelsea knew how to control the advantage and set the pace. Tottenham, on the other hand, did not show any strength of reaction throughout the match.
The teams face each other again next Wednesday, at 4:45 pm (GMT), at Tottenham’s home. Before that, both teams will have an appointment at the FA Cup. Chelsea face Chesterfield next Saturday, at 2:30 pm. The Spurs play against Morecambe on Sunday at 11am.
