Tottenham’s 3-2 victory over Newcastle, this Sunday, for the eighth round of the English Championship, was marked by a great scare. Before the break, the game was stopped by the referee after a fan suffered a sudden illness in the stands.
Around the 40th minute, when the Spurs winning 2-1, Tottenham players ran to the bench to ask the team doctor to run to the stands on the opposite side.
Medical teams from both clubs crossed the field towards the scene of the incident, despite the cameras from the Sky Sports not having broadcast any more images of what happened, just showing the players gathered near their benches, drinking water and talking.
According to journalists at the stadium, doctors were carrying defibrillators.
After a few minutes of interruption, the referee asked the players to retire to the changing rooms and the transmission of the match was interrupted.
After a few minutes, the players returned to the field to do warm-up exercises to resume the duel soon after, to the applause of the crowd gathered in Saint James Park.
