For a long time he was not able to refer to the top in. Everything changed under the leadership of Stefan Horngacher. Already in the first season, under the leadership of the Austrian coach, the leader of the Polish team had a chance to win the Golden Eagle. The dreams of success, however, could have ended with a trial series before the competition in.
Stoch’s moments of horror at Bergisel
In the first two competitions of the 65th Four Hills Tournament, Kamil Stoch took second place, which allowed him to appear at Bergisel as the leader of the series. On his favorite hill, Poland was to take another step that would ensure him the final victory. Meanwhile, his performance in the third TCS competition was put into a big question mark.
In the trial series, Kamil Stoch made the longest jump, thus confirming his great form. Polish television did not show the training competition, but the network quickly circulated information about the excellent attempt by the Pole. Soon after, however, unpleasant information began to pour in about the fall of Stoch.
Although the sore jumper left the landing area himself, and Aleksander Winiarski examined him in the locker room, a nervous countdown began. If Stoch were injured, he would not be able to compete for the competition, which would make it difficult for him to win the 4-Hills-Tournament.
Kamil Stoch won the 65th TCS in a big way
Ultimately, the Pole managed to take part in the main competition. However, the conditions were not favorable at that time – the cards were handed out by the wind, and the organizers had a big problem with even one series. The first part of the competition was very long.
The competition for Bergisel in the 2016/17 season had only one series, in which Kamil Stoch jumped 120.5 meters, which gave him the fourth place. After these competitions, the Pole lost the lead in the cycle to which he was 1.7 points ahead of him. This is still an excellent result considering the possible fall injury in the test series.
In Bischofshofen, however, Stoch was second to none. After jumps of 134.5 and 138.5 meters, he clearly won the competition, and only in Tande’s 26th position, also the entire 4-Hills-Tournament. This year, the Pole appeared at Bergisel, took part in training and qualifying, but did not qualify for the competition and was withdrawn from TCS by the decision of the training staff.
