Thiago Silva renews with Chelsea until 2023

Chelsea announced this Monday the contract renewal of defender Thiago Silva for another year. The Brazilian’s new bond extends until the end of next season.

The player arrived at the Blues at the beginning of last season, after the end of his contract with Paris Saint-Germain. At 37, the athlete has 56 matches for the English club, 22 of which in the current season.

The team’s director, Marina Granovskaia, highlighted that the player’s experience and leadership were decisive for the expansion of his bond.

“Thiago Silva’s experience, leadership and performances were and continue to be very important for this team, so we are extremely pleased to extend his contract for another year,” he said.

Thiago, in turn, talked about the feeling of wearing the Chelsea shirt for another year.

“Playing here at Chelsea is a real pleasure. I never thought I would play for three years here at this great club, so I am very happy to stay for another season. I would also like to thank my family, the club, Marina and Mr Abramovich for this opportunity. I will continue to give my all for this club and for the fans, who have always been by my side since I arrived,” he declared.

Last season, the Brazilian was instrumental in winning the Champions League. In addition, he is one of the most quoted to represent Brazil at the World Cup this year.
