“I would like Russian football players to be more Russian than foreign. I want to have fewer legionnaires, and more Russian guys, youth, guys from the regions, ”Mizulina said.
According to her, a large number of young people are engaged in sports in Russia. “I want Russian football clubs to take their own, not some Western players,” Mizulina added.
In the summer of 2024, the head coach of the Russian national team Valery Karpin appreciated the need to tighten the limit on legionnaires in the Russian Premier League (RPL). According to the expert, nothing needs to be changed. Now, in the application for the season, one club may have no more than 14 legionnaires, while no more than eight foreigners can be present on the field.
