The head of the International Federation of Gymnastics (FIG) and presidential candidate of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), Morinari Vatanabe, announced his intention to come to Moscow. His words are given by RIA Novosti.
The Japanese said he wanted to talk with Russian gymnasts. “I will also go to Israel, Palestine, other conflict zones. When we are talking about peace, we must act, ”said Vatanabe.
According to the head of FIG, sport cannot stop the war. “But sport can help the world. We need time, but we should not give up, ”the functionary said.
The election of the President of the IOC will be held as part of the 143rd session of the organization, which will be held from March 18 to 21 in Greece. In addition to Vatanabe, seven more candidates apply for a post. On February 26, Thomas Bach fired from the post of head of the organization.
