The Bilbao-Rekalde San Silvestre popular race is suspended

The Bilbao City Council It has not given authorization for the celebration of the popular Bilbao-Rekalde San Silvestre 2021 race, which was to be held this coming Friday, December 31, in the afternoon, so the organizers have decided to suspend the test.

The popular end-of-the-year race was to start at the Guggenheim at four thirty on Friday afternoon to finish half an hour later in the Rekalde neighborhood, where this test was born.

The 1,740 registered were this week picking up their numbers, but the consistory has officially communicated to the organization that the event was suspended.

The organizers have explained that they are looking for an alternative to celebrate the race at another time.

According to sources from the Bilbao City Council have informed Europa Press, the decision not to authorize the use of public space for the celebration of the race has been taken this afternoon, by virtue of the latest measures ordered by the Basque Government to stop the sixth wave of the covid-19 pandemic.

For this same reason, the celebration of the Bilbao-Rekalde San Silvestre Txiki 2021 children’s race has not been authorized, which was to be held this coming Friday, between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m., approximately.
