Irina Viner left the post of head coach of the Russian national rhythmic gymnastics team. According to her, she intends to convey the experience gained to trainers.

“Artistic gymnastics is my life, and I am happy that I was able to contribute to the development of this beautiful sport. Nevertheless, I decided to resign from the post of head coach of the Russian national team in rhythmic gymnastics, ”Winer told reporters.

Wiener added that many of her students themselves became outstanding mentors, which will preserve the traditions of Russian rhythmic gymnastics. She is convinced that “rhythmic gymnastics remains in safe hands.”

Wiener was called the personification of rhythmic gymnastics

Tatyana Tarasova, Honored Coach of Figure Skating, considers Winer a brilliant coach and personification of rhythmic gymnastics. According to her, no one will be able to replace it.

The head of the Ministry of Sports of Russia, the president of the Russian Olympic Committee, Mikhail Degtyarev, expressed the gratitude of Winer, emphasizing that she literally created a school of rhythmic gymnastics, which the whole world admires.

The minister is convinced that her experience will be in demand in the preparation of a new generation of trainers.

In turn, the president of the Russian gymnastics Federation Oleg Belozerov pointed out that it was under the leadership of Wiener that the Russian team became the recognized leader of world sports, and its students have repeatedly proved their skills at the largest competitions.

Athletes called Wiener Mom

In March 2023, the Gymnastic Ethics Fund (Gef), an independent disciplinary authority created by the International Gymnastics Federation (FIG), banned Winer in any quality to participate in international competitions and events of FIG. In response, Russian gymnasts sent an open letter to President FIG Morinari Vatanabe with a request to cancel the coach disqualification. They called her “a coach from God.”

In turn, commenting on the letter of the athletes, Wiener noted that she was not surprised at him. “They all call me a mother, why should I be surprised? I am not at all surprised, ”she said TV.

Wiener is 76 years old, she headed the national team since 2001. Under her leadership in command exercises, the Russian team won the four Olympics in a row – from 2004 to 2016. At the games in Tokyo in 2021, the Russian team won silver medals. Among her students, in particular, the Olympic champions in the all -around Alina Kabaeva, Evgenia Kanaeva and Margarita Mamun.

“Pity is the destiny of the weak. You can cry only at the highest step of the podium, recalling the difficult path that had to be overcome on the way to victory. In other cases, this is a sign of cowardice, ”Winer emphasized.
