The organizers of the Sudtirol MoonLight Classic ski race in Italy explained the participation of Russian Alexander Bolshunov in it. The comment is given by TASS.
“It is clear that there may be concerns about such a delicate issue as a conflict in Ukraine. However, in a sporting context, we must realize the difference between the views of athletes and political views, ”the organizers said, emphasizing that the team distances from any political controversy. They noted that sport should be the space of justice, respect and international understanding.
The participation of Bolshunov in the Sudtirol Moonlight Classic race became known on February 10. The Russian will perform at a distance of 30 kilometers.
Three -time Olympic champion Bolshunov has been collecting in Italy since the end of January. According to the senior coach of the Russian national team Yuri Borodavko, the trip was agreed with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation and CSKA.
The restrictions on the performance of Russians by the International Federation of Ski Racing and Snowboard (FIS) were imposed in March 2022. Since that moment, representatives of Russia have been suspended from international tournaments.
