Russian wrestlers will perform at international tournaments under the flag of UWW
The director of the Russian sports training center, Georgy Bryusov, in his Telegram channel called the status of Russian wrestlers with whom they will perform at international tournaments.
Bryusov said that Russian wrestlers will perform at international tournaments under the flag of the United World of Wrestling (UWW). He emphasized that the meeting of the UWW bureau, which approved the composition of the commissions for the new Olympic cycle, took place on February 5.
Earlier, UWW softened the criteria for the admission of athletes from Russia to international tournaments. Now, participation in the competition will be denied only those athletes who are convicted in direct participation in a special military operation (SV) in Ukraine.
UWW decided to allow Russian athletes to participate in international tournaments in neutral status in April 2023. Later, representatives of the country refused to participate in the 2024 Olympics. The Russian wrestling federation said they did not accept the unsportsmanlike principle of selection for games.
