Zhurova about the return of Russian sports: apparently, Trump’s words worked
State Duma deputy and Olympic champion in speed skating Svetlana Zhurova spoke about the possible return of Russian sport to the international level. Her words are given by RB Sport.
“People who were not against the participation of Russia initially were now feeling that they could voice it and they would not be anything for it. Apparently words [президента США Дональда] Trump somehow acted, no matter whether he will do all this or not. But they understand that the athletes are leaving and it is necessary to decide, ”the deputy said.
Zhurova noted that in all international federations there are positive shifts. But, in her opinion, Ukraine will continue to write protests and letters.
Earlier, Director of the Department of National Associations of the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) Zoran Lakovich expressed hope for relieving sanctions from Russian sports in 2025. He noted that he understands the feelings of Russians.
Since the end of February 2022, most Russian athletes have been suspended from international tournaments. Some athletes got the opportunity to perform on the world arena in neutral status, some of the Russians changed citizenship and represents other countries.
