Ukraine asked for the International Hockey Federation (IIHF) to extend the removal of country Russia. This is stated in the official letter of the Ukrainian Hockey Federation.
“The Ukrainian side called on the International Federation to preserve and strengthen sanctions against Russia and Belarus, avoiding their players and coaches to international tournaments,” the statement said.
The report also states that Ukrainians hope for the fundamental position of IIHF and decisiveness as regarding the values of sports. A letter to the head of the International Federation was sent by the Minister of Youth and Sports of Ukraine Matvey Poor and President of the Ukrainian Hockey Federation Sergey Mazur.
Earlier, the head coach of SKA and the Russian team “Russia 25” Roman Rotenberg appreciated the chances of the national team to play at the Olympic Games-2026. “We believe. I personally believe. He concluded that the Russian team will play at the Olympics in Italy.
Earlier, IIHF announced that on February 3-4 will consider the issue of admission of the Russian national team to the 2026 Olympics. In the event of a positive decision, the Russian team will play with the USA, Slovakia and Latvia in group S.
IIHF extended the removal of the national teams of Russia and Belarus for the season-2024/2025. For the first time, restrictions were introduced in February 2022.
