Korovashkov: IOC deliberately did not allow Shtyl so that Russia would not have a medal
Canoeist Alexey Korovashkov named the culprit for the lack of medals in rowing for Russians at the 2024 Olympic Games. His words are quoted by Match TV.
Korovashkov recalled that the International Olympic Committee (IOC) did not allow his teammate Ivan Shtyl, who had won a license, to participate in the tournament. “Our crew with Shtyl was broken only because Ivan and I had a strong crew. The IOC did it specifically so that Russia would not have a medal in this distance,” he said.
As a result, Korovashkov competed in a pair with Zakhar Petrov at the Paris Olympics. They took fourth place in the 500-meter canoe-two-man competition.
At the same time, the Russians set an Olympic record in the qualification. “We wanted to prove to the whole world that we can make a gem out of two left-handers (athletes rowing from the left),” Korovashkov noted.
