Striker Julián Álvarez is close to leaving Manchester City. According to the newspaper The AthleticAtlético de Madrid has reached an agreement with the English club for the signing of the 24-year-old player. The total transfer fee could reach 95 million euros (around R$ 593 million). If confirmed, this will be the biggest sale in the history of the Citizens.
The Spanish team were looking for a center forward after the departures of Álvaro Morata and Memphis Depay. The Colchoneros also recently acquired Norwegian Alexander Sorloth, who was at Villarreal.
Last season, Julián played 54 matches for the Manchester team, starting 39 of them. However, the striker did not have many minutes in the decisive games, such as the Champions League quarter-final duel, in which the Citizens were eliminated by Real Madrid, and the final stretch of the English Championship.
In total, the Argentine scored 19 goals and provided 13 assists during the 2023/24 season. Álvarez was the third player who scored the most goals, behind only Erling Haaland and Phil Foden.
In addition, Julián also stands out for his national team and has already collected several achievements on his resume: a World Cup (2022), two Copa América (2021 and 2024) and a Conmebol-UEFA Champions Cup (2022).
