Swimmer Kirpichnikova thanks the French after changing her citizenship
Former Russian swimmer Anastasia Kirpichnikova has appealed to the French after changing her citizenship. Her words are quoted by RMC.
The athlete said her mother was afraid of the negative attitude of the French, and stressed that the local public strongly supports her. “I say thank you. I feel like I am the most French of French women. I have never experienced this,” she said.
The athlete has been training in France for five years. At the Paris Olympics, she is entered in the 400, 800 and 1500 meter freestyle events. The swimmer failed to make it to the 400 meter final, but she made it to the 1500 meter final.
Kirpichnikova is a three-time European champion in short-course swimming as part of the Russian national team. She has a silver medal from the World Championships.
