The International Friendship Association has proposed postponing the Friendship Games to 2025
The International Friendship Association has proposed postponing the Friendship Games from 2024 to 2025. This was reported on the organization’s website.
The proposal was put forward following consultations with a number of athletes and international sports federations. “The main reason for revising the date of the tournament was the insufficient recovery time for leading athletes participating in major international tournaments in the summer of 2024,” the statement said.
The letter was sent to the government for consideration. According to the organizers, the postponement of the tournament will allow for a more representative composition of participants, and will also provide an opportunity to expand the program through cultural and entertainment components.
The Friendship Games were scheduled for September 2024 and were to be held in Moscow and Yekaterinburg. The tournament was expected to include competitions in 33 summer Olympic and non-Olympic sports.
