Pregnant fencer competes at Olympics

Egyptian fencer Hafez competed in the Games while seven months pregnant

A pregnant fencer, Egyptian representative Nada Hafez, competed at the 2024 Olympic Games. The athlete herself announced this on Instagram (a social network banned in Russia; belongs to the Meta company, which is recognized as an extremist organization and banned in the Russian Federation).

Hafez shared that she took part in the tournament in Paris while seven months pregnant. “What you thought were two participants on the platform were actually three. It was me, my opponent and my unborn child,” the athlete wrote.

The fencer noted that the pregnancy was difficult, but now she is filled with pride. She also thanked her husband and family for their support.

26-year-old Hafez competes in sabre fencing. At the 2024 Olympics, she reached the 1/8 finals, where she lost to South Korean Jeon Hayung with a score of 7:15.

Hafez was competing in the Olympic Games for the third time. She placed 36th in Rio de Janeiro 2016 and 29th in Tokyo 2021.
