Triathletes’ swim cancelled at 2024 Olympics due to poor water quality in Seine
The second triathlon training swim at the 2024 Paris Olympics has been cancelled due to poor water quality in the Seine, the BBC reports.
The Olympic organizing committee and the International Triathlon Federation said that tests revealed a level of river water quality that does not provide sufficient guarantees for holding the competition. The federation emphasized that the athletes’ health is their priority. At the same time, the organizers promised that the water quality will return to an acceptable level before the competition begins.
Earlier, the leader of the Patriots party, Florian Philippot, said that the rain that fell on July 26-27 in Paris made the authorities’ efforts to clean the Seine in vain. The politician was outraged by the fact that 1.4 billion euros were spent on cleaning the Seine for this swim. However, due to the rain and pollution of the river, sporting events are postponed.
The Olympic triathlon competitions are scheduled for July 30 and 31. Running and cycling training are taking place as scheduled.
