South Korea’s team announced as DPRK at Paris 2024 opening ceremony
The announcers at the opening ceremony of the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris confused the Koreas, Yonhap reports.
The incident occurred during the delegation parade. When the South Korean team was sailing on a boat along the Seine, the French and English speakers announced it as the DPRK team. However, the subtitles of the broadcast contained the correct designation.

South Korea’s sports ministry has requested a meeting with International Olympic Committee (IOC) President Thomas Bach to discuss the incident. “We have also asked the foreign ministry to lodge a strong complaint with France at the government level,” the ministry added.
Later during the ceremony, another mistake occurred: the Olympic flag was raised upside down on the flagpole. In Greece, the event was called the collapse of civilization.
