IOC Vice President Havertz: It is important to be open to Russians and Belarusians
Vice President of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) Nicole Hewertz spoke about the importance of Russia in the Olympic movement. Her words are quoted by TASS.
Havertz said the IOC wants athletes who meet the requirements to be able to participate in the Olympic Games. “I was also involved in the commission [по допуску россиян] in 2018, and it is very important for us that Russian athletes remain part of the Olympic movement,” she said.

The Vice President noted that it was important for them to be open to athletes with Russian and Belarusian passports and not to exclude them because of their nationality. “We have two specific key criteria that we analyzed and that were very important to us to make sure that athletes who wanted to participate could participate,” she concluded.
The opening ceremony of the 2024 Olympics will take place on July 26, the competition will end on August 11. Russians and Belarusians have been admitted to the Games in neutral status, a total of 15 Russian and 17 Belarusian athletes will compete in Paris.
