Macron is not criticized for not having children. And Harris became a “childless cat lady”

The American media is alive with the scandalous statement of Republican politician JD Vance from 2021. It was recalled after it turned out that Kamala Harris will probably be the Democratic candidate for the office of the president of the United States. The politician called her a “childless cat lady” on Fox New three years ago.

“He actually rules us […] “a bunch of childless cat people who are unhappy with the lives they lead and the choices they make, so they want the rest of the country to be just as unhappy,” JD Vance said in the aforementioned interview. Interestingly, the interviewer was Tucker Carlson. This is the same journalist who recently interviewed Vladimir Putin and quickly got his own show on the propaganda channel Russia24.

Having children doesn’t make one a good politician

First, it’s worth correcting Vance’s words a bit. The Republican clearly didn’t do his homework before the interview. The Democratic politician’s husband is Doug Emhoff. This is the lawyer’s second marriage. He had two children with his first wife, and Kamala Harris is involved in raising them. So it’s not like she doesn’t know anything about children. She even wrote a column about her relationship with her husband’s children a few years ago, which was published in Elle magazine.

When we got married, no one liked the term ‘stepmom’. Instead, they came up with the name ‘Momala’ and it stuck. I am so grateful to Doug, Kerstin (Doug’s ex-wife), and most of all Ella and Cole for accepting me into their family. I can say one thing for sure, my heart would not be whole, nor my life complete, without them. It is the pure love we show each other every day

– Harris betrayed. Secondly, what does that even have to do with anything? Having children doesn’t make someone a good or bad politician. Nor does not having children make it so. Following this line of thought, we could begin to point out to Donald Trump, as an exemplary conservative, how many descendants he has and with how many women.

We also have our own “childless cat lover”

Unfortunately, the victims of such attacks are usually women. It is rare for famous men in important positions to be criticized for their lack of offspring. For example, I have not heard anyone criticize French President Emmanuel Macron for this. And rightly so. Because it does not affect his work in any way.

Such arguments probably only appeared when Jarosław Kaczyński and his party tightened the abortion law in Poland in 2020. At that time, we could hear voices that “a childless bachelor with a cat is setting women’s lives up”. So we can say that in our Polish backyard we also have a “childless cat lover”. However, the funny thing is that this is a politician who currently clearly supports Donald Trump’s candidacy. However, I don’t think anyone would comment on the personal life of the PiS chairman if his party had not interfered so much in the personal choices of Polish women and men during its rule.

Just because someone doesn’t have children doesn’t mean they’re unhappy

JD Vance stated that Kamala Harris is unhappy because she has no biological children. Really? After all, these days there is so much talk about many people consciously giving up having children. I myself do not have a child yet and I do not consider myself an unhappy person. Quite the opposite. I have a lot of concerns about whether such a difficult task as raising children will not disturb the harmony of my life.

Besides, I think it’s just cruel to point out someone’s lack of children, whether in private life or in TV interviews. We never know what’s really behind it. Often it’s various health issues. That’s why criticizing someone for not having children or persistently asking about it can actually be hurtful to someone who has already suffered a lot because of it.

The fact that a politician doesn’t have children certainly doesn’t diminish his or her achievements. It’s also not a good argument in discussions about their activities. We can criticize them for their mistakes, hypocrisy, lies, and scandals. But let’s stop focusing on whether someone has children or not. It really doesn’t matter.
