Hammer Thrower Clunies to Skip 2024 Olympics Due to Internet Problems
Jamaican hammer thrower Nyoka Clunies will miss the 2024 Paris Olympics due to internet problems at the Jamaica Athletics Association (JAAA), the organization’s website reported.
The JAAA said that they had mistakenly not entered Clunies for the Games. The reason was the lack of electricity and internet access due to Hurricane Beryl. The quota that the Jamaican athlete was supposed to use was redistributed in favor of Ukrainian Iryna Klymets.
Clunis appealed to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), but it was rejected because the case was outside the CAS’s jurisdiction. The JAAA expressed hope that the athlete would be able to participate in the Games.
The Paris Olympics will be held from July 26 to August 11. The IOC has allowed Russians and Belarusians to participate in the 2024 Games as individual neutral athletes.
