WADA appeals decision to acquit fencer Thibus in doping case
The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) has filed an appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) against the decision of the International Fencing Federation (FIE) to acquit Tokyo Olympic silver medalist Isaora Tibus, AFP reports.
The CAS hearing on Thibus’s case will take place after the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris. The athlete has not been suspended from competition during the hearing. It is reported that the fencer may lose the awards she won at the 2020 Olympics.
In early February, it was reported that Thibus had tested positive for ostarine. She attributed the banned substance to sexual contact with her husband, foil fencer Race Imboden, who was taking the drug.
After this, the FIE anti-doping court acquitted Thibus. The athlete was found not guilty and will be able to take part in the 2024 Olympics at home.
