After injury in match against Brazil, Ronald Araújo undergoes “successful” surgery

Barcelona announced this Monday morning that defender Ronald Araújo has undergone “successful” surgery. The player suffered an injury to his right hamstring while playing for Uruguay in the Copa América against Brazil.

The duel in question was valid for the quarter-finals of the competition and was held on July 6. Still in the first half of the match, the Uruguayan felt discomfort in the back of his right thigh and had to be substituted.

The surgical procedure was performed by Dr. Lasse Lampainen, under the supervision of Barcelona doctors, in Turku, Finland. The Spanish club also said that Araújo’s return to the field “will be assessed based on the recovery time”.

Ronald Araújo is 25 years old and has been one of Barcelona’s defensive pillars in recent years. Last season, he played 37 matches, scoring one goal and contributing two assists.

In addition to Ronald Araújo, Barcelona’s medical team includes midfielders Gavi, Pedri and Frenkie de Jong. The Spanish club will begin its pre-season games on July 30, when it will face Manchester City at the Camping World Stadium in the USA.
