Olympic Champion Yelena Isinbayeva Will Not Receive IOC Honorary Member Status
Two-time Olympic champion in pole vaulting Yelena Isinbayeva was denied the status of honorary member of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), TASS reports.
The IOC stated that only those who have worked in the IOC for at least ten years and have exceptional merits before the organization can receive the honorary status. It is noted that Isinbayeva spent only eight years in the IOC.
It became known on July 19 that Isinbayeva would leave the IOC Athletes’ Commission due to the expiration of her term of office. The IOC had previously conducted an investigation into the Russian. The commission concluded that the former athlete could work for the organization, since she did not support the special operation in Ukraine and did not have a contract with the Russian army or security forces.
Isinbayeva is a two-time Olympic champion in pole vaulting and holds 28 world records in the event. She has been a member of the IOC Athletes’ Commission since 2016.
