Champion Rylov complained that swimming is not a popular sport in Russia
Two-time Olympic swimming champion Evgeny Rylov named the advantage of American sports. His words are quoted by Match TV.
The athlete complained that swimming is the most popular sport in the US, with stadiums filled to capacity. “At the Russian championship, the stands may have been full, but there wasn’t such strong support,” Rylov emphasized.
Last December, Rylov announced his refusal to participate in the 2024 Olympic Games. He criticized the conditions set by the International Olympic Committee for the Russians.
In April 2022, the International Swimming Federation banned Russians from participating in competitions under its auspices. In February 2023, the organization moved the 2025 World Aquatics Championships from Russia.
