Russian figure skaters Dikidzhi and Lutfullin demonstrated attempts at quintuple salchows

Russian figure skater Vladislav Dikidzhi showed an attempt at a quintuple jump on his Telegram channel.

Dikidzhi tried to perform a quintuple salchow, but fell. “I realized that it could have a negative effect on my health, so the bet is not worth the lost competition season. The risks are not justified. Everything has its time,” he wrote. Earlier, the figure skater made a bet with world champion in pair skating Alexander Galliamov that he would perform a quintuple jump by the end of the summer.

Dikidzhi was joined by Gleb Lutfullin, who also showed an unsuccessful attempt at a quintuple salchow. “I agree, it’s hard!” he wrote.

On July 19, the International Skating Union (ISU) assigned a base value to quintuple jumps. The five types of jumps (toeloop, salchow, loop, flip and lutz) were valued equally at 14 points. No value was given for the 5.5-turn axel.
