CSKA goalkeeper and former goalkeeper of the Russian national team Igor Akinfeev explained why he did not strive to play in Europe. It is reported by Sport24.
Akinfeev said that he did not come across direct offers from foreign clubs. He noted that he saw no reason to leave for Europe for the sake of “sitting on a bench.” He also explained the refusal to help football agents.
“An agent for finding a club in Europe? No. And I’m glad I didn’t have them. If I had one, I would not have spent 20 years in my own club and won titles with him. Would I be a Manchester United star? Anything can be. But I chose this path, ”said 35-year-old Akinfeev.
“For me, no United or Arsenal will ever stand next to CSKA,” he added.
Together with CSKA, Akinfeev won 20 trophies, including six victories in the Russian championship and six Russian Cups. Also in the army, he won the UEFA Cup in 2005.
Akinfeev is a graduate of the army club. He has been playing for the Red and Blues since 2002.
