The Basque Government commits to a public participation in renewable plants

The Executive has presented a shock plan against the rise in electricity to large companies that consume electricity in the CAV.

The Minister of Economic Development, Sustainability and the Environment of the Basque Government, Arantxa Tapia, has presented to the large energy consuming companies a proposal with shock measures before the rise in the price of energy, including the commitment to Basque public participation in investments in renewable electricity generation plants to offer these energy productions to the producing sectors of the CAV, through PPA-type contracts.

Tapia met today with representatives of the industry clusters that consume the most energy to analyze the situation derived from high energy prices. Along with the counselor, the Deputy Minister of Industry, Mikel Amundarain; the director of Strategic Projects and Industrial Administration, Zigor Urkiaga; and representatives of the Paper Cluster, Energy Cluster, Siderex, Federation of Foundry Associations, Aclima and AVEQ-KIMIKA.

As indicated by the counselor, it is a “zero” draft with which they want to “share, collaborate and work” and added that they do not intend to give “lessons to anyone or elaborate a requirement” but to propose measures to address this problem derived from high costs energy, which can have “two impacts”, one that decarbonization is “slower” and the other an impact on companies.

Tapia has highlighted that it is a working document, “alive and open to contributions”, which defines measures in three areas of competence given the “need to cooperate” from all instances, Euskadi, Spain and Europe.

In the proposal, the Basque Government undertakes to promote support for investments in energy efficiency in industry and in the residential sector. Likewise, it supports the development of renewable facilities for self-consumption or in the format of energy and storage communities, and proposes to promote joint electricity purchases for low voltage consumers.

In addition, it is committed to Basque public participation in investments in renewable electricity generation plants to offer these energy productions to the producing sectors of the Basque Autonomous Community, through PPA-type contracts. As he has pointed out, these measures seek to offer consumers “greater stability in the cost of the electrical energy they support.”
