Spain’s standout player at the Euros, Nico Williams, has been approached by Barcelona, who are considering paying the player’s release clause. The 22-year-old player’s release clause is worth around 58 million euros, according to the Spanish newspaper Sport.
Last season, Barça tried to sign Nico Williams on a free transfer. In turn, the player extended his contract with Athletic Bilbao until 2027 and frustrated the Catalan club’s plans.

Barça are looking to recreate the partnership that the player formed with Lamine Yamal during the Euros. Together, the forwards had eight goal contributions. In the grand final against England, Yamal provided an assist for Williams himself, who opened the scoring in the final.
Several Barcelona players and Williams’ teammates are lobbying on social media for the deal to go through. Names such as Pedri, Gavi and Fermín López have already shown their support for the signing of the striker.
Last season, Nico Williams scored eight goals and provided 19 assists in 37 appearances for Athletic Bilbao. With Spain at the Euros, the forward appeared on six occasions and scored two goals.
