Olympic Rowing Medalist Prakaten Joins Uzbekistan National Team
Russian Anna Prakaten, Olympic vice-champion in single sculls rowing, has changed her sports citizenship. RIA Novosti quotes International Olympic Committee (IOC) Director of Communications Mark Adams as saying.
Adams said the IOC had approved Prakaten’s move to the Uzbekistan team. He stressed that the executive committee had granted a request to waive the requirement to serve a three-year quarantine, so that the Olympic medalist would be able to represent Uzbekistan at the Paris Games.
Prakaten’s transfer to the Uzbekistan national team became known in April. The President of the Russian Rowing Federation (RRF) Alexey Svirin said that due to the suspension, the athlete was thinking about ending her career, but decided to continue competing, changing the flag.
In addition to the Olympic silver, Prakaten also has gold from the European Championship. Until 2016, she played for the Belarusian team.
