Ben Chilwell will undergo surgery and come down for Chelsea at the Worlds

Chelsea will not be able to count on Ben Chilwell for the rest of the season or for the World Cup. According to the newspaper Daily Mail, the full-back will have to undergo knee surgery due to a serious injury suffered last month.

In the match against Juventus, in the Champions League Group Stage, Chilwell suffered a cruciate ligament injury in the Blues’ 4-0 victory and has been out of the field ever since.

At the time, the 25-year-old was on the ground writhing “in a lot of pain,” according to coach Thomas Tuchel. After the match, Chelsea performed tests and waited to see how her knee responded in the coming weeks before deciding on an operation.

With the surgery, Ben will be forced to be out of action for the remainder of the season and will not take the field at the Club World Cup, which runs from February 3-12.

The first game of the tournament will be between Auckland City and Al Jazeera. The winner steps forward and finds Al Hilal. Afterwards, whoever comes out alive will face Chelsea in the semifinals.

In the decision, the English club can face Palmeiras, if the team passes Al Ahly, from Egypt, or Monterrey, from Mexico, in the semi.
