On Friday, Ecuador’s Independiente del Valle terminated the contract of striker Alexander Bolaños, who, according to the club, falsified his personal documents. The player lied about his name and age and was suspended from football for three years by the Ecuadorian Football Federation (FEF) for ideological falsehood.
“Independiente del Valle informs that it has terminated the contract with Alexander Bolaños for falsifying documents, since the person in charge and rector of Ecuadorian football (FEF) has proven this and punished the player,” wrote Independiente del Valle in a statement.

Alexander Bolaños’ real name is Jancer Romario Bolaños Casierra. In addition to falsifying his name, the striker also changed his date of birth, claiming to be five and a half years younger. In reality, the Ecuadorian was born in May 1994 and not December 1999, as stated on his fraudulent documents.
The athlete had been training separately from the rest of the Del Valle squad for a few months, as he was under investigation by the Ecuadorian Football Federation.
Bolanõs, who has already played for Ecuador’s youth teams, still had more than four years left on his contract with Independiente del Valle, with his contract with the Ecuadorian club extending until the end of 2028. The striker arrived at the Ecuadorian club this season, after a spell at Colo-Colo in Chile.
