Türkiye beats Euro and Copa America finalists and leads the way in gaining followers on social media; check it out

After the end of two of the biggest national team competitions in the world, Eurocup e America CupIBOPE Repucom released the 2024 edition of the digital ranking of the 50 teams that have already participated in FIFA World Cups.

The survey highlights the performances of the finalists Spain, Colombia, England e Argentinawhich were among the five football teams that gained the most followers on social media in the last month, but none of the finalists led the gain in subscriptions among teams in the world. The official accounts of Türkiye were the ones that stood out the most and led the growth in the last month.

Turkey and the finalists of the competitions have together had more than seven million followers since the start of the Euro Cup and the Copa América. The result of these five teams corresponds to 53% of the more than 14 million subscribers among the official profiles of the 50 teams analyzed.

Turkey, despite only reaching the quarter-finals of the UEFA Euro, has achieved the highest growth among all other teams since June 2024. The FTF (Turkish Football Federation) has recorded more than 1.609 million new followers, 67% of which are through its profile on Instagram. Furthermore, Turkey also grew the most, proportionally among all the monitored teams, with an evolution of 40% in its general digital base, and of more than 100% only in its profile on TikTok.

Euro Cup champions Spain performed similarly, with around 1.55 million new sign-ups during the tournament. Instagram was the biggest driver of this result, accounting for 70%, or one million, of the Spanish team’s new followers. With these gains, La Roja’s digital base grew by 11% during the competition, and the team now has 15.8 million sign-ups across its official profiles.

Colombia, the Copa América runner-up, has registered around 1.469 million new subscribers since the start of the championship. The FCA (Colombian Football Federation) stood out by leading the growth among the national teams in the Instagram (1.2 million new subscribers), in X (75 thousand) and in Facebook (200 thousand), in the latter sharing the lead with Argentina. As a result, Colombia reached the mark of 16.9 million subscribers in the total sum of its digital accounts.

Euro runners-up England added more than 1.424 million new subscribers. The “English Team” recorded its best performance on Instagram (793 thousand new subscribers) and on TikTok (500 thousand), which represented 91% of all English earnings. The English team also stood out by appearing as the second largest growth in the YouTube (70 thousand new subscribers) and in “X” (62 thousand). With these results, England “overtook” Brazil and now ranks 2nd in the global ranking of social media subscriptions among football teams with the largest digital bases in the world, with 40.5 million subscriptions on their official profiles.

Argentina rounded out the TOP 5 of teams that gained the most new fans on their profiles. In total, the current Copa América champion gained 1.340 million new followers on its social media, 80% of which came from its Instagram, which contributed to the selection reaching the mark of 14.5 million subscribers on the platform, and 27 million subscriptions in the total sum of its digital media.

Me and Brazilian Team ranked 11th in terms of growth, adding just 307 thousand new followers across its official platforms, 98% of which came from its Instagram profile. Despite its technical performance in the Copa América, it is important to note that the CBF does not have an official profile on TikTok. In comparison with other teams in the world, Brazil continues to have the largest page on Facebook, with 12 million subscribers, the second largest account on Instagram (17.8 million), the third largest channel on YouTube with 1.7 million subscribers (behind France and England).
