KHL makes changes to the rules of the game

KHL Amends Game Rules for 2024/2025 Season

The Continental Hockey League (KHL) has announced changes to the rules of the game that will come into effect from the 2024/2025 season. They are available on the organization’s website.

In particular, goalies will be able to throw the puck out of the glove forward in the direction of the opponent’s goal. In addition, the penalty shot will not be considered complete at the moment the goalie touches the puck. “If the goalie plays the puck, but it continues to move towards the goal line, the penalty shot is not complete, and the attacking player can play the puck,” the KHL said.

The league also allowed changing a field player to a goalie in overtime at any time during the game, not just during breaks. In addition, the interpretation of trips was adjusted. The KHL clarified that the introduction of new rules is aimed at increasing the entertainment value of matches.

The new KHL season starts on September 3. The current holder of the Gagarin Cup is Magnitogorsk Metallurg.
