Deputy Zhurova: Russian athletes may face difficulties at the Olympics
Russian athletes may face a number of difficulties at the Olympics in Paris, State Duma deputy Svetlana Zhurova warned in a conversation with Lenta.ru. In particular, she pointed out a number of organizational issues that could complicate the athletes’ participation in the competitions.
“Judoists and wrestlers refused to go to the Olympics. They waited until the last minute, but still refused because they were used to going as a team. And this time, neither coaches, nor doctors, nor massage therapists will be allowed. Previously, even in neutral status, the Olympic Committee headquarters worked on our behalf. It negotiated all organizational issues, but now individual athletes, apparently, must organize everything themselves,” said Zhurova.
According to her, even how Russians will get to Paris raises questions: there are no direct flights to France now, visas and transfers are required. Previously, athletes did not need a visa, but now the situation is becoming more and more confusing.
“Who will accompany the Russians in the Olympic village? Conduct the draw? Apply for competitions? Previously, the headquarters staff did all this, now such moments are unclear,” the deputy concluded.
Earlier, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) included 15 athletes in the final list of Russian participants in the 2024 Summer Games in Paris. Seven tennis players, a trampoline jumper, a swimmer, three cyclists, and three canoeists have been admitted to the Games.
