In response to Plushenko, MP Zhurova stated that there is no need to go to the 2024 Olympics
Olympic champion, first deputy chair of the State Duma Committee on International Affairs Svetlana Zhurova responded to two-time Olympic champion Evgeni Plushenko, who sent parliamentarians for a request to support a boycott of the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris. Her words are quoted by RTVI.
Zhurova said that there is no need to go to the Olympics, but there is no need to boycott the competitions either. “My fellow deputies, unfortunately, apparently do not understand that we have essentially already organized a “boycott”, we just have not announced it publicly,” she considered.
Earlier, Plushenko revealed the answer he gave to the deputies who asked him to support the boycott of the Paris Games. “I sent them into space, these deputies. I said – you stand in the place of an athlete. You sit, it’s a different job,” he said.
The 2024 Olympics will be held in Paris from July 26 to August 11. Russians and Belarusians were allowed to compete as individual neutral athletes.
