Andrzej Duda planned to do this from the beginning. What next with the abortion law? “I am satisfied”

The Sejm has rejected a bill decriminalizing assistance in abortion. The president is pleased with Friday’s decision by the parliament. In an interview for Polsat News, he presented a clear position on the bill abolishing punishment for assistance in terminating pregnancy.

Last Friday, the Sejm decided that it would not support the law decriminalizing abortion and termination of pregnancy with the consent of the pregnant woman up to the 12th week. 215 MPs voted for the adoption of the law and thus the amendment of the Penal Code. 218 MPs voted against, and 2 MPs abstained.

Andrzej Duda on the law decriminalizing abortion. “I am satisfied with the result of the vote”

President Andrzej Duda was a guest on Polsat News on Friday evening (July 12). He was asked about the decision of MPs regarding the act decriminalizing assistance in abortion. He noted that “in view of the applicable law, this is a reasonable decision”. – If abortion is generally prohibited, and it is generally prohibited with a few exceptions, then these prohibitions should be sanctioned by law. If there is no sanction, the ban becomes illusory. – stated the president.

The editor pointed out that Friday’s vote was extremely even, and the Sejm would most likely have voted on this bill if not for the absence of several coalition MPs. – This is parliament, this is the Sejm. Sometimes the result of the vote is this, sometimes it is that. I am happy with the result of the vote, this is a reasonable result – declared Duda.

Decriminalization of abortion. Andrzej Duda has already announced that he will veto the bill

Duda’s position on Friday’s bill was known earlier. In a conversation with “Super Express” journalist Grzegorz Zasępa, he reminded that he clearly declares himself as an opponent of abortion. The editor pointed out to him that “you don’t know the content of the bill.” – Wait, wait, if I hear the word decriminalization, i.e. abolition of criminal liability, then I know that it will lead to the absolute illusory nature of the abortion ban. This cannot be, because it means that unborn life will not be protected at all. It is also no secret to anyone that I am against abortion. – Andrzej Duda explained his position.
