Russian boxer Gadzimagomedov defeats Zhaoxin and becomes WBA world champion

Russian boxer Muslim Gadzimagomedov won the World Boxing Association (WBA) super heavyweight title, as reported by “Championship”.

27-year-old Gadzimagomedov defeated Chinese Zhang Zhaoxin by technical knockout in the fourth round. The fight took place in Serpukhov as part of the IBA Night of Champions tournament.

Gadzimagomedov has won four of his four professional boxing fights. As an amateur, he is a two-time world champion and a silver medalist at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. Zhaoxin, 28, has 12 wins and three losses. His other fight ended in a draw.

On October 5, 2022, the International Boxing Association (IBA), headed by Russian Umar Kremlev, admitted athletes from Russia and Belarus to international competitions under the auspices of the organization. Boxers will perform under national flags, and in the event of their victory, the national anthem will be played.
