Three-time World Swimming Championships medalist Andrei Minakov spoke about the decision of Russian Evgeny Somov to take part in the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris. His words are quoted by RIA Novosti.
The athlete supported his compatriot, noting that he had long lost contact with Russia. “No matter how you look at it, every athlete dreams of going to the Olympics. Plus, he spent a lot of time abroad; he left in 2019,” Minakov said.

Somov is the only Russian swimmer to receive an invitation to compete in the Olympics. The 25-year-old lives and trains in the United States.
The 2024 Olympics will be held in Paris from July 26 to August 11. Russians and Belarusians were admitted to the competition as individual neutral athletes. The first list of participants was published on June 15, and is regularly updated.
