1,800 triathletes will take part in the Vitoria Ironman this Sunday

1,800 triathletes will take part this Sunday, July 14, in the fifth edition of the Vitoria Ironmanwhich will bring together 100 professionals in this discipline.

On this occasion, international participation reaches 68% with representatives from 58 countries, including: France, United Kingdom, Belgium, Portugal and GermanyIn addition, women will make up 13% of the athletes who will start the race at 8:00 a.m. at the Ullíbarri-Gamboa reservoir.

The swimming course will consist of 3.8 kilometers and after the transition to the bicycle, the participants will do two laps of a circuit 90 kilometers before arriving in Vitoria. After putting on their running shoes, they will complete the race through the streets of the Basque capital with a marathon of 42,195 kilometers. This is a flat circuit consisting of four laps through the centre of a city, which is packed with triathletes every year. The finish line will be in Plaza de España, where a large part of the public will gather to welcome each runner.

Among the favourites to climb to the top of the podium is the Frenchman Sam Laidlow In the men’s category, he will wear the number 1 jersey as the current Ironman World Champion and will fight with Cameron Wurf and Alistair Brownlee. In the women’s category, one of the favourites is the Basque Gurutze Frades, who won the title last year and will have close behind Kat Matthewsrunner-up in the 2022 Ironman World Championship and The Visser.

It is worth noting that this edition of the Vitoria Ironman is part of the Ironman Pro Race Series 2024 circuit, which includes 20 races in 9 different countries.
