King Charles III congratulated England’s national football team on Thursday for qualifying for the Euro 2016 final against Spain, and said he hoped the match would be a little less stressful for fans.
The monarch sent his “warmest congratulations” to the England team after their 2-1 win over the Netherlands on Wednesday and expressed his “best wishes” for Sunday’s final in Berlin against Spain, who beat France (2-1) in the other semi-final.

In good humor, Charles III asked the players, however, to think about the blood pressure of the English, who during the tournament saw the English team draw in the last minute against Slovakia, in the round of 16, and win on penalties against Switzerland, in the quarterfinals, and had to wait for Ollie Watkins’ decisive goal in the last minute on Wednesday night against the Netherlands.
“If you can secure victory before a last-minute miracle goal or another penalty shootout drama is needed, I’m sure the nation’s heart rate and blood pressure will be seriously relieved,” the monarch joked in a statement.
“Good luck, England,” he concluded.
