Tennis player Svitolina: I can’t change the decision on admitting Russians to Wimbledon

Ukrainian tennis player Elina Svitolina assessed the admission of Russians to Wimbledon 2024, which is being held in London. Her words are quoted on the tournament website.

The athlete assessed the organizers’ decision with the phrase “what is, is.” She emphasized that she cannot change this, although she has taken many actions against the Russians. “We can do so much to help people, and not just focus on what we do not control,” Svitolina added.

Earlier, Svitolina lost to Kazakhstan’s Elena Rybakina in the quarterfinals of Wimbledon. The match lasted one hour and one minute and ended with a score of 3:6, 2:6.

Earlier, Svitolina addressed the Association of Tennis Professionals and the Women’s Tennis Association during a press conference at Wimbledon 2023. She called on the organizations to issue a statement that there will be no handshakes between Russian, Belarusian and Ukrainian players.

Ukrainian tennis players do not shake hands with Russians and Belarusians, and do not take joint photos after matches. In response, the spectators boo the athletes.
