Florida coach Ivanov: I regret that I won’t be able to bring the Stanley Cup to Russia
Maxim Ivanov, development coach for the National Hockey League (NHL) Florida Panthers, spoke about the impossibility of bringing the Stanley Cup to Russia. His words are quoted by TASS.
“I would gladly take it to Russia, but NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman said that unfortunately, it is not possible to do so now. It is a pity, because I wanted to show the Cup to my friends, relatives, acquaintances,” the specialist shared. Ivanov said that he will spend the day with the Cup in Florida.
The NHL has decided that the Stanley Cup cannot be brought to Russia for the third year in a row. The league noted that players will have this opportunity later.
Florida won its first Stanley Cup, defeating the Edmonton Oilers in Game 7 of the NHL Finals. The team featured three Russians: goalie Sergei Bobrovsky, defenseman Dmitry Kulikov and forward Vladimir Tarasenko.
