On Monday, Barcelona president Joan Laporta admitted his interest in signing Athletic Bilbao striker Nico Williams, praising the player and guaranteeing that the Catalan club has the financial means to make the transfer.
“Today, we can afford to sign Nico Williams, economically speaking. I really like Nico Williams. We have to let Deco work to try to close the deal. I hope they give us good news. We have regained the weight we had and there are great players who want to play for Barça,” he told Catalonia Radio.
Nico Williams has been one of Spain’s standout players at the Euros. The 21-year-old left winger has impressed with his dribbling and speed.
He also formed a great partnership with Barça’s youngster Lamine Yamal. The forwards are known for the constant danger they pose to their opponents in matches and also for the friendship they share off the pitch.

With the help of the wingers, Spain is in the semi-finals of the European Championship and faces France, this Tuesday, at 4 pm (Brasília time), at the Allianz Arena, in Munich.
Finally, Laporta lamented Pedri’s absence from pre-season. The midfielder was injured after a strong challenge from Toni Kroos during the quarter-finals of the European Championship, in which Spain beat Germany 2-1.
“It’s not pleasant to start pre-season with Pedri injured again. I feel very sad because Pedri is fundamental for us. We have to strengthen the team,” said the Barcelona president.
